Reduced Tillage and Use of Cover Crops
Less tillage means less burning of fossil fuels and more sequestration of soil carbon

Establishing Perennial Forages
Perennial forages mean less tillage. Forage legumes fix nitrogen, leading to less use of synthetic nitrogen.

Soil Testing / Nutrient Balancing
Care in using fertilizer rates and application techniques means that there is less waste of synthetic fertilizers (nitrogen in particular) and less nitrous oxide emitted from N fertilizers

Manure Management
Applying manure responsibly means that there is less nitrous oxide emitted from the manure
